Happy New Year everybody! I feel just a tad behind everybody else, only wishing you a ‘Happy New Year’ on 13th January but one of my goals for this year is to procrastinate less and just get on with things! Before I show you some snaps of my new chickens (now lovingly known as ‘the girls’) I thought I’d show you some of the photos I took at the end of 2010; starting with the carol service I went to on Christmas Eve:

View from our seats at Derby Cathedral’s Christmas Carol Service
We went to this carol service last year and I remember thinking how much I enjoyed it so booked tickets very early on for it again this year. It really got me into the festive spirit and forced me to slow down a bit after all the rushing around and preparations for the following day.
As I mentioned in my las post, I went away between Christmas and New Year. Whist we were in Windermere we visited the Beatrix Potter Attraction. It was a great trip and I took some photos as we walked through some of the scenes:

The entrance to the attraction
Peter Rabbit

Mr Tod & Jemima Puddleduck

Old Brown Owl
The lighting wasn’t great for photos but I think these shots give you an idea how detailed all the scenes and characters were. I’ve always wanted to visit the attraction because I grew up reading the books and collect the figurines. I wasn’t disappointed!
At the end of our short break we stopped in a small North Yorkshire village called Gillamoor. It was very cold and after the photo below was taken it snowed again, forcing us to leave a day early so we didn’t get stuck there (if work wasn’t the following week I’d have gladly got stuck there

)

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for………..I’d like to introduce you to my 4 new chickens! (please excuse the poor photography, bad weather + unsteady hands with an iPhone = not great pictures
Here’s Ginger & Pickles (names taken from a Beatrix Potter book)

Ginger (on the left) is a cream-legged Longhorn and she lays mint green coloured eggs!
This is Bunty (name taken from the film Chicken Run)
and finally this is Mac (coincidentally a chicken’s name from Chicken Run but actually inspired by my family’s name)
Mac seems to be the most confident of all of them but even now, after only having them for 6 days it’s clear they all have their own individual personalities!
The girls have settled in well and rewarded us with daily eggs:
This weekend’s project is to move their house and run into the larger wooden chicken run so during the day when we’re not in they can have much more room to spread out. Somehow got to build a wire frame over the top of the wooden fencing to keep any foxes out! Hopefully pictures to follow soon.
Until next time have a great rest of the week
