Adders in Yorkshire
I’m now back from sunny Yorkshire with lots of photos to share with you. As I mentioned in my last post, I travelled to Yorkshire to meet up with the wildlife artist Andrew Hutchinson. He had very kindly agreed to meet us again and go adder watching on the moors!
Here is the view that greets you as you make your way down to Rosedale, North Yorkshire. It really is the most stunning view and I love to sit and take it all in!

Early on Saturday morning we travelled to an MOD sight Andrew had got a pass to and went on the search for adders! It was a hot and sunny day and this meant a lot of them would already have been in the sun and then hidden under the bracken. However, we persevered and found our first 2 adders.

The male was trying to mate with the female (the adder on the left with the amber eyes) but we think she had already mated and wasn’t at all interested! It was fascinating to see them so close.

Eventually they both slithered back under the rock they had come from

In between seeing more adders, we spotted a slow worm…

a lizard…
and a beautiful green butterfly:

It was a great day and it was lovely to see Andrew again.
On our drive back over the moors I photographed these:

The male pheasant really is a stunning bird. I hope to paint one soon – they are made up of so many gorgeous colours!
His lady friend wasn’t so keen on a photo but you can just make her out amongst the bracken

That’s all for now, have a great easter break everybody! Oh and if you haven’t already, be sure to sign up to my newsletter – i’ll be sending one out later today!

that butterfly is so beautiful. we have family in yorkshire so i will be sure to watch out for the adders too!
wishing you a happy easter

Thank you
It’s amazing how beautiful and placid adders really are, they get bad press but as long as you don’t scare them (like any animal) they ignore you! Happy easter to you too! x
